The 12th World Urban Forum (WUF12), organized by UN-Habitat, took place in Cairo, Egypt, in November 2024. As the world’s premier conference on sustainable urbanization, WUF12 gathered global leaders, policymakers, and experts to discuss urban challenges, climate resilience, and inclusive development. The event fostered international collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovative solutions to shape a sustainable future for cities worldwide.
For this event, I had the opportunity to work as an interpreter from November 4th to November 6th, facilitating communication in multiple languages. Over these three days, I attended various sessions, helping participants engage in discussions on sustainable urban development. This experience allowed me to witness insightful debates, network with professionals, and contribute to the success of an internationally significant forum.
I was selected by The Translation Gate, LLC to serve as a live interpreter at WUF12 in Cairo for three days, from November 4th to November 6th. My primary responsibility was to provide real-time interpretation for the Spanish delegation from Catalonia. While Catalan is widely spoken in the region, most of the delegation members primarily communicated in Spanish, so I conducted my interpretation in Spanish. Throughout the event, I accompanied the delegation to various sessions, ensuring they could fully engage in discussions, follow their agenda, and communicate effectively with other participants. Additionally, I facilitated their interpretation with Dr. Michal Mlynár, helping bridge language barriers in high-level conversations. This experience not only allowed me to contribute to an internationally significant event but also strengthened my ability to provide accurate and efficient interpretation in a fast-paced, multilingual environment.
